Medical diagnostics is the study of the procedures that provide information to aid the screening, detection, diagnosis and monitoring of disease. This dynamic discipline includes pathology, clinical biochemistry, immunology and radiology.

Technological advances, increased expectations for medicine, longer life expectancy and legal, ethical and economic factors are all playing a role in this burgeoning multi-million pound industry.

Uniquely, the course brings together biomedical and analytical science with production technology, business management, economics and ethics. It is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) to assist with the career development of State-registered Biomedical Scientists. The programme comprises introductory lectures, a formal taught ten-module course, an integrating component and a four-month research project and thesis.

Students benefit from formal training support from key figures in industry and leading hospitals and we provide placements for all students wishing to carry out their research project in industry.

Suitable for both recent graduates and healthcare professionals, this course will prepare you for a career in this expanding industry with prestigious companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, Unipath or Bayer and provides a route to novel and innovative higher research (MPhil/PhD) to drive medical diagnostics forward.
