The MSc programme in Agricultural Development focuses on sustainable development in the developing countries and provides you with scientific and practical knowledge about the production of plants, livestock and fibres, food processing and about food quality, economy and the environment. As a graduate in agricultural development, you will be making sustainable positive changes to the life of the world´s poorest.

With an MSc in Agricultural Development you will have the qualifications for becoming a consultant in a Danish or international organisation involved in development, eg. Danida, FAO or UNEP. You may also find employment in non-governmental organisations such as third-world countries e.g. DanChurchAid or CARE. You are also qualified for research positions in Denmark or with an international research institution.
Programme introduction: The programme starts with a methodological introduction where students work in small interdisciplinary groups to solve a specific problem from a developing country. The course is followed by a three-week field trip, for example to the mountain areas of Thailand, where you might collaborate with foreign students and educational institutions on how the local population could reduce soil erosion through plantings in the area.
Core courses and elective courses: The core and elective courses allow you to build your professional profile through one of the recommended course profiles: Plant production, animal husbandry, tropical forestry, development economics, human nutrition or food supply. You can also compose your own individual course profile.
You can also choose among a number of international specilisations called Sustainable Development in Agriculture (Agris Mundus), Sustainable Forest and Nature Management (SUFONAMA) and Sustainable Tropical Forestry (SUTROFOR). These are international programmes, which are delivered by Research and Higher Education Institutes in Europe. You will spend the first year in one university and the second year in another university.
Thesis: The thesis requires a three-month stay in a developing country where you will usually be working within a local or international organisation. The student selects the subject of the thesis which is often based on a specific problem.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
More informationApplicants with a BSc from Faculty of Life Sciences in Natural Resources, Food Science, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Forest and Landscape Engineering, and Agricultural Economy are automatically accepted.
Other relevant degree programmes at university level in a field related to agricultural development or, alternatively, in the Social Sciences.
Applicants with English as a second language must pass one of the following English tests:
1) The IELTS test - International English Language Testing System, with a minimum score of 6.0.
2) The TOEFL® Test - Test of English as a Foreign LanguageTM, passed with a minimum score of 83 in the internetbased test (IBT) or minimum 560 in the paper based test. The computer based TOEFL test is not accepted at LIFE.
Exemptions from taking the one of the above mentioned language tests is given to:
Language tests older than 2 years are not accepted. Applicants must have their test results sent directly to the Faculty of Life Sciences.
Applications will be processed when the Admissions Office has received your test results.

EU/EEA-citizens do not pay tuition fees in Denmark. However, all students applying for an MSc programme with citizenship outside EU/EEA must pay an annual tuition fee of Euro 14,000. All non-EU/EUA applicants applying for admission to an MSc degree programme are automatically considered for a limited number of scholarships and tuition fee waivers. Priority is given to students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance.
