Recent years have seen tremendous developments in the design and implementation of software and systems in both industrial and research settings.

This MSc programme provides students with the skills required to appreciate the entrepreneurship and innovation required in the software industry. Core material will cover area such as

* Advanced Information Storage and Retrieval

* Case studies in Computing Entrepreneurship

* Large Scale Commercial and Research Application Development

* Project Development skills

The programme allows students to select from a range of additional options that may include:

* Mobile Networks and Devices

* Network Security

* Virtualisation Technologies

* Mobile Multimedia

* Datamining

The main aim of this programme is to provide the graduates with the most up to date knowledge & skills required by employers to contribute to the knowledge economy.

Students will also get a chance to demonstrate the skills they have learned by completing a substantial research and development project.


Contents

The Masters Degree consists of 90 credits. This comprises taught modules for a total of 60 credits and a research/development project for a total of 30 credits. The 60 credits of taught modules comprise 30 credits of core modules and 30 credits of elective modules.

Students are required to seek approval of the Head of Department for their choice of elective modules, following consultation with the programme coordinator. Not all elective modules will be offered each year. Laboratory work will be associated with many of the units.

Requirements

Candidates must have obtained at least a Second Class Honours degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a closely related technical discipline.

The MSc is targeted at candidates holding a strong undergraduate degree in Computer Science and with a passion for computing technology and software development.
