The MEconSc Degree is a research orientated Masters programme designed to provide the recognised portfolio of skills, knowledge and understanding for participants interested in pursuing (i) further studies in Economics especially for entry into doctoral (PhD) programmes in Ireland and internationally and (ii) for opening up careers as professional economists in business, public sector, consultancy and education.

The emphasis is on the nature and role of economic theories and particularly their use in applied research.

Contents

Participants will undertake modules in advanced Microeconomics and Macroeconomics which will explore some of the fundamental theories that exist in these areas. Modules in Econometrics and the Quantitative Techniques for Economic Research will apply the important mathematical and statistical skills required for a practicing research economist.

Participants will also debate, discuss and communicate on contemporary issues in the economic environment in seminars that are devoted to current economic research. Research skills and professional development are also examined and the entirety is brought together in an applied research project which is completed at the end of the programme.
