Location of University College Cork

This MA (CKE70) course is taught jointly by the Departments of Government, History and Philosophy. It in an integrated introduction to some of the central issues in contemporary national and international politics

The course involves two elements:
* study of four modules, and associated examinations;

* submission of a minor dissertation, completed under the direction of staff in one of the three departments listed above.The details of the modules offered vary from one year to another; however, they include modules on democracy, terrorism, international relations, international justice, globalization, political philosophy, etc.Students choose a topic for their dissertation is consultation with a relevant staff member.

Learning OutcomesOn successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
* Foster advanced knowledge and understanding of a range of political issues, methodologies, and theory;
* Foster the ability to critically analyse a range of sources and the intellectual debates within a given topic;
* Develop research practice leading to the ability to construct and write a thesis;
* Prepare for further research degrees.

Requirements

In order to be permitted to proceed to this programme, a candidate must normally hold a primary degree with a Second Class Honours Grade 1 (or equivalent) in one of the following areas: Arts, Humanities, Social Science or Law. Candidates who hold a primary degree with a Second Class Honours Grade 2 will also be considered subject to a written expression of interest and/or interview acceptable to the Director of the programme.

IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL equivalent
