This programme aims to prepare you as a professional economist dealing with national and international issues in the area of food, agriculture and development of rural areas. It will develop your ability to apply economic knowledge, analytical tools and skills to policy problems in a wide range of areas including food security, agricultural markets liberalisation, and integrated development of rural areas and alleviation of rural poverty. The programme provides options to enable you to study related subjects in the agri-environment area, and trade and development.
Contents
Our teaching is informed by the research and scholarship of teaching staff, and is aimed at motivating you to achieve your full potential. All MSc students take a module in Research Methods, which provides practical skills and knowledge for MSc-level research. Students have widely differing backgrounds in mathematics, so the first week of all our Master's programmes is given over to compulsory intensive teaching in mathematics.

Assessment
Assessment is a mixture of assignments, projects and written examinations (in May). You then write a supervised dissertation between June and September.

A good first degree (minimum 2.1 or equivalent) in a relevant subject with a background in mathematics/ststistics/quantitative methods.
All students from non-English speaking countries must show evidence of competence in an English language test at an appropriate level. Minimum standard IELTS = 6.5, incl 6.0 in reading and writing; TOEFL = 600, incl 4 in written English; internet-based TOEFL 90, incl 20 in reading and writing; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English C; Cambridge Advanced Certificate in English B.
