Programme objectives:

* to bring together students from science faculties (physics, chemistry, biology…) or engineers. The curricula will allowed the homogenization of scientific knowledge of these students and in the same times will have in mind, as major objective, the valorisation of the different scientific abilities acquired previously to master study.
* the lectures and the research activities will have a coherence in the scientific formations of the students in solid state physics and material sciences.
* the master curricula will be dynamic in permanent connections with top scientific subjects and the job opportunity on the market.
* the familiarisation of master students with the specific research methods of physicists/chemists/biologists in solid state physics in the study of materials, mainly nanomaterials.
* the necessity to prepare the future PhD students and researchers for the research activities developed in the research institutes and laboratories of Babes-Bolyai University or exterior to UBB.
* to answer to the student questions as: „the opportunity after master studies? where the graduate can find a job? the help of master study in professional development?

Course aimed at:

- graduates in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Engineering; graduates of other departments with fundamental knowledge in physics and material sciences are welcome.

Partner universities:

Joseph Fourier University Grenoble, INPG Grenoble, University of Nantes, Technical University of Chemnitz, University of Osnabrueck,

University of Karlsruhe, University of Rouen.

The master studies represent the second cycle of the university studies. The MA programmes enable the students to further their research into a specific domain and they prepare the way towards their applying for the doctoral programmes. A master's degree corresponds to a two-year postgraduate program (120 ECTS credits, 30 ECTS in each semester). The curriculum of a master´s programme provides 14-16 hours a week. There are 4-6 disciplines in each semester.

Core disciplines:

Special Topics in Solid State Physics, Fundamental Models in Physics and the Theory of Phase Transition, Spectroscopic Methods in Solid State Physics, Nanostructures and Thin Layers, Physics of Metals and Alloys, Experimental Methods in Solids, Physics of Magnetic Phenomena, Solid State Electronics, Modelisation and Numerical Simulation, Transport Phenomena In Solid, Magnetic and Superconducting Materials, Electronics and Signal Processing. Through the master’s programme, students have to carry out one semester of research stage at Babes-Bolyai University or abroad.

Thesis

The completion of master studies assumes a dissertation corresponding to 20 credits, beyond the 120 credits of the curriculum.
