The University of Essex is one of the UK's leading academic institutions, ranked ninth nationally for research excellence following the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).
MA Theatre allows you to take between two and four of our specialist theatre modules. Our theatre modules have two emphases: Shakespeare and Playwriting, with Playwriting modules recommended if you wish to write your own stage plays.
We introduce you to a range of contemporary plays and give you an idea about the possibilities that exist within the form of contemporary drama. Whilst this study is taking place, you begin your own writing. We encourage you to work independently as scholars in your specific fields of investigation, and to formulate and present a reflective view of your findings, which will enhance your career prospects, as well as prepare you for possible progression to doctoral research.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
