The University of Essex is one of the UK's leading academic institutions, ranked ninth nationally for research excellence following the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).
We offer our MA Longitudinal Social Research jointly with our Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER). MA Longitudinal Social Research gives you advanced training in contemporary theory, in current issues in applied sociology, and in the techniques of analysis of longitudinal and panel data. We provide you with the skills necessary for a successful career as a professional sociologist in a university, government, commerce or industry.
Graduates will be equipped with the skills to analyse sociological issues using appropriate data. Many important aspects of sociological phenomena cannot be properly investigated empirically without the use of panel data, for example class and occupational mobility, movements into and out of poverty, gender issues and the impact of gender on lifetime trajectories, health, the evolution of asset and wealth holdings, or the division of domestic labour and allocation of resources in households.
