Continuously improving business processes is of increasing importance for companies looking to stay competitive in today's global markets. For society, there is a strong need to keep jobs by realising and utilising the potential in existing businesses. Companies need to compete both by bringing new products to the market and by improving existing products and processes. These two aspects constitute the rationale underlying the programme.
The aim of the Quality and Operations Management Programme is to support graduates in acquiring the knowledge and skills required to manage, improve and transform organisational processes.
Who should apply
Students who are interested in pursuing a professional and/or academic career within organisational development and continuous improvement should apply for the Quality and Operations Management Programme. Students interested in understanding how organisations design, deliver and improve their processes will have every opportunity to develop their knowledge in the field.
Why apply
We are witnessing an upsurge in industry’s interest in improvement philosophies for existing products and processes that make industry competitive. Examples are Six Sigma and lean production, which aim to improve the process through which products and services are developed and delivered.
Many companies and public organisations have improvement programmes in place based on these or similar ideas. However, success in these programmes requires a mindset change and organisational transformations. Engineers equipped with the knowledge and competence needed for organisational change and business improvement are therefore crucial.Graduates of the programme can find positions as quality and improvement process facilitators, problem solvers or change agents, production, quality or product development engineers or project managers. There is also the prospect of working within management in the abovementioned areas as well as management consultants or academic researchers.
The programme consists of one compulsory block of 60 HEC where 15 HEC are alternative compulsory, which gives the student a chance to choose between three alternatives. The alternatives are all industrially based projects, focusing on quality improvement, operational improvement or product development. The third semester includes 30 HEC elective courses, although we recommend the course Change Management & Improvement Processes.
Research connections
All courses and projects are taught and supervised by active researchers in the field of quality and operations management. Furthermore, we apply ongoing research to examples, cases, projects and regular lectures to the extent possible. QOM students are able to take part in research discussions and analyses.
