The University of Essex is one of the UK´s leading academic institutions, ranked ninth nationally for research excellence following the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).

Our MSc Adult Nursing leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and an associated academic award.

Our programme aims:
1. to provide a comprehensive teaching environment that facilitates the development of safe and effective adult nurses;
2. to develop the capacity in you to work autonomously in contemporary health settings and within associated legislation;
3. to enable you to demonstrate client-centred communication and interpersonal skills when working with people in distress;
4. to assist you to value theoretical understanding and practice evidence based decision making in adult nursing;
5. to instil reasoned comprehension of professional values and the role of reflection in continuous professional growth as an adult nurse; and
6. to develop within you the capacity to lead, manage and work within multi-professional team.

We have offered pre-registration nurse education since 2004, unlike many of the older, traditional nursing schools. This means that, by choosing to study nursing with us, you receive a fresh, contemporary and relevant nurse education programme; integrated into a University that is one of the the UK's top ten research universities.

We also educate pre-registration physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, clinical psychologists and oral hygienists – to name a few – as well as providing on-going professional education for qualified health and social care staff. This means that you not only study alongside other health professionals learning with them, but you also get the opportunity to learn expert knowledge from them!

All of our Masters level pre-registration programmes are offered as accelerated programmes. This means you have the advantage of interprofessional learning (IPL), encouraging professionals to learn with and from each other – an understanding that helps to ensure our students have the expertise to respond adequately and effectively to the complexity of their service user needs, and ensures that care is safe, seamless and of a high standard.
