Modules
Human and Financial Management in EngineeringThe aim of this module is to provide you with the skills to apply management techniques as tools to achieve engineering solutions using human and financial resources. Using case studies of engineering management practices you will explore diverse matters, including: legal and ethical considerations, control through costing, motivation and leadership and negotiations.
Engineering SimulationThis module will enable you to understand the scientific methods underlying the modelling of real systems. It will further expand your understanding of a range of sophisticated mathematical techniques and simulation methods using the examples facilitated by engineering companies. You will examine case studies to demonstrate how models can be validated against real measurements.
Engineering InnovationThis module will develop your understanding of the process of innovation in an engineering context and expand your knowledge of the impacts that management has in an engineering enterprise. The module will explain engineering innovation thoroughly from the history of innovation, current trends and new concepts for 2020, how to generate new ideas, and analysis of failures and success in innovation.
Engineering Project ManagementThis module will enable you to apply project management techniques to achieve quality engineering solutions using human and financial resources. All aspects of project management will be studied including value management, risk management, project appraisal and cost estimation. The module will use case studies that examine a wide range of projects from around the globe, including those from developing countries.
Group ProjectThe final project is designed to encompass all that you have learnt throughout your four previous modules. The module gives you the opportunity to undertake a cooperative development project, which will involve collection of primary data, design, planning and control. The project will develop your team working skills in planning and executing a group product development exercise. We welcome applications from graduates with a good honours degree, or equivalent qualification, in any field of engineering. We also consider candidates with other relevant qualifications and individuals with a minimum of three years' work experience. Those without formal qualifications need to demonstrate relevant work experience and the ability to study at postgraduate level.
