A part-time, English-language programme where health professionals acquire knowledge and skills relevant to their careers. MHPE is a two-year programme taught both in Maastricht & abroad.
The Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) teaches you the knowledge and skills relevant for a career in innovative health professions education and research. The modular curriculum covers advanced study of learning and instruction methods, curriculum development and assessment. It is primarily distance based: you spend a maximum of three short periods in Maastricht. Since the programme began in 1992, more than 120 Maastricht MHPE alumni have become leaders of innovation in medical and health sciences education. This is a two-year part-time programme taught in English.
The Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) provides the knowledge and skills relevant to a career in educational development in medical education.
The programme is a two-year half-time programme, mostly distance based. It is a modular curriculum with units lasting around eight weeks. Participants spend three full-time short periods in Maastricht. Two periods of two to four weeks are dedicated to educational activities and one period during which the students finalise and publicly present and defend their master´s theses.
The first year of the programme introduces the themes and methods of learning, instruction, curriculum development and assessment in the field of health professions education. The second year addresses these topics in electives at a more advanced level.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

More informationThe programme is open to professionals with a higher education degree in one of the health professions from an institute in their native country (e.g. health sciences, medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, dentistry, pharmacy, speech therapy) at a level equivalent to that of the Dutch degrees in these fields. Preferably candidates have had some work experience in an educational organisation. Students are required to submit evidence of good proficiency in English. Applicants from higher vocational education institutes must provide evidence of sufficient knowledge of statistics and research methodology.
