Developed in conjunction with the Engineering Council, the Professional Engineering MSc is a work-based learning route to the academic qualifications and professional development you need to demonstrate for registration as a Chartered Engineer.
The programme allows you to acquire professional competences alongside the MSc – without the need to take time off work. The flexibility of the programme allows it to be adapted to almost any work situation, industry or location.
What will you study?
Appropriately qualified academic and professional supervisors will work with you and your employer to design a unique programme. Typically lasting two to three years, this 'learning agreement' is tailored to your specific work situation. It will stipulate a well-defined schedule of activities and meet a strategically-significant development need for your employer.
The academic supervisor will provide the guidance and support needed to ensure the programme meets the requirements of an MSc. The professional supervisor will ensure it enables you to demonstrate the engineering skills and competences needed for Chartered Engineer status.
Course structure There are three phases to this programme – the Entry Gateway; Work-based Learning Goals; and the Exit Gateway.
Phase One: Entry Gateway
* The personal development audit (PDA) is a reflective summary of education, qualifications, experience and competences to date.
Phase Two: Work-based Learning Goals
* These are individual goals created by matching the PDA against PEI/UK SPEC requirements
Phase Three: Exit Gateway
* This is either a reflective summary or an engineering dissertation depending on your skills and needs. It also includes a viva voce.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Entry to the MSc Professional Engineering normally requires the completion of an accredited BSc/BEng (Hons) degree. Those without such a degree but with suitable industrial experience, may join the MSc subject to assessment.
As the course is designed to take participants directly to CEng status, participants must also have significant engineering experience. (Engineers applying for CEng status need to have demonstrated the ability to apply their engineering knowledge within a practical engineering environment.) For those who have an accredited first degree (either BEng or BSc) we require a minimum of two years' relevant industrial or engineering experience. For those without such a degree, we will require a greater amount of industrial experience.

Many of the courses that we run are accredited and recognised by relevant professional bodies within their respective fields. As part of our commitment to providing quality, relevant courses we seek accreditation and recognition wherever possible. In fact the Higher Education Funding Council of England awarded us a quality rating for 'Excellence in teaching'.
Kingston Business School is also one of an elite number of UK business schools with Association of MBA accreditation of our MBA courses. Plus we have received EPAS accreditation from the European Foundation for Management Development for several of our postgraduate and undergraduate business programmes; only the second UK business school to receive this accreditation.
