The politics of food in society, involving manufacturers, retailers, consumers and health professionals, are complex and continually evolving. This programme enables its students to take on responsible tasks in national and international enterprises in the food business, as well as in food certification organisations.
In particular, they are qualified to manage complex processes in enterprises in food industries and food trade as well as farms to develop and market food products and related services according to the needs of different consumer groups. The graduates, with their flexibility of thinking and wide range of knowledge and skills, are proving increasingly attractive to employers. Graduates are qualified for further postgraduate studies, esp. PhD programmes.
The MSc International Food Business and Consumer Studies is a joint venture of two German Universities: The University of Kassel in Witzenhausen (Organic Agricultural Sciences) and the University of Applied Sciences Fulda (Nutritional, Food and Consumer Sciences). The lectures take place in Witzenhausen (4 days/week) and in Fulda (1 day/week).

Bridging Modules
Bridging Modules are designed to compensate for different levels of background knowledge and skills which students have gained during their undergraduate studies. Two modules from a catalogue of eight modules.

Two modules of these focus on transferable skills, intercultural communication skills and methods of scientific work, while
six modules focus on in-depth knowledge of food and nutrition-related areas of natural science, economics and social science.

Profile Module
The "Profile Module" has to be chosen from the module catalogue of the Master´s degree programmes offered at
* Kassel University,
* Fulda University of Applied Sciences,
* or foreign partner universities;
the module has to be relevant with respect to the student´s projected qualification profile. The modules´ contents, the respective number of ECTS points, as well as the respective exam requirements are specified in the module descriptions.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testThe programme aims at graduates, which hold a Bachelor´s, or equivalent degree in the field of

* Food Technology, or
* Consumer Science
Candidates with a background in Economics and related fields possess appropriate knowledge and skills at degree standard in fields related to Food and Agricultural Economics/Business.
Grade 2.5 on German grading scale.
Language Proficiency
The Master's course is completely taught in English. Therefore, applicants whose first language is not English should be able to demonstrate a satisfactory level of spoken and written English (e.g. TOEFL 61 - Internet based, or equivalent certificate)
Knowledge of the German language is recommended but not compulsory for applying to the programme. A German language course will be offered each winter term before the lectures start.
Language Courses
For those who do not posses any of the mentioned language certificates and / or wish to improve their language proficiency before the postgraduate programme starts: A tuition free intensive language course will be offered at Kassel University in Witzenhausen
