Übersetzen spielt eine bedeutende Rolle im Kontakt der Kulturen. In diesem Zusammenhang hat die Übersetzung von Literatur besondere Bedeutung, denn sie gilt als sprachlich-ästhetisches, schrift- und textbasiertes Speicher- und Repräsentationsmedium interkulturellen Wissens. Aufgrund der zunehmenden Globalisierung und Internationalisierung in sämtlichen Bereichen der Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft steigt der Bedarf an qualifizierten, wissenschaftlich ausgebildeten Literaturübersetzern, deren fundierte Sprachkenntnisse mit einem hohen Maß an interkultureller Sensibilität verbunden sind. Der integrative Masterstudiengang, der Forschungsorientierung mit hervorragender berufsspezifischer Qualifikation verbindet, vermittelt Wissenskompetenz in den prägenden europäischen Sprachen und schafft damit die Basis für Verständnis und Vermittlung auf globaler Ebene, da die besondere Kompetenz im Umgang mit interkulturellen Prozessen in der Praxis textproduktiv umgesetzt wird.

The MA Literary Translation consists of six interlinked modules from varied fields of study, such as literature, linguistics, cultural studies, and translation studies combined with intensive practical training. The target language is German only.
The exam comprises of five module examinations and the master thesis. Teaching takes place in seminar groups which are run on a discussion rather than a lecture format.
Das Masterstudium dauert vier Semester und schließt mit dem akademischen Grad "Master of Arts" ab. Die Ausbildung erfolgt in zwei Ausgangssprachen sowie der Zielsprache Deutsch. Als Ausgangssprachen können gewählt werden: Englisch in Verbindung mit Französisch, Italienisch und Spanisch.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

The necessary prerequisites are:
a) A BA certificate* in one of the languages with a grade point average of at least 2,5 (B) as well as the certificate of admission to a German university. Foreign applicants have to prove their German language skills at DSH level and
b) All applicants have to pass a written test in English, the Romance Language of their choosing and German.
*Applicants with other undergraduate university certificates will have to pass a qualifying examination.
Folgende Qualifikationen sind erforderlich:
- ein mindestens mit dem Bachelorgrad (Mindestnote 2,5) abgeschlossenes, fachlich einschlägiges Studium oder eine vergleichbare Qualifikation
- Nachweis der besonderen Eignung
Sollte der erforderliche Notendurchschnitt des B.A.-Abschlusses nicht erreicht sein, kann der entsprechende Wissensstand auf Antrag in einer mündlichen Prüfung von 30 Minuten Dauer festgestellt werden.
