Effective human resource management and development has the potential to create competitive advantage for organisations. As a subject area, it is concerned with how organisations may approach managing, leading and developing people. This is both challenging and complex for HR specialists and managers alike.

This course, designed to enable you to assess the nature, role and contribution of the human resource function in organisations, will equip you with the skills and capabilities required to undertake a human resource role at an influential and strategic level. We will help prepare you to be a leader within the profession, building upon your existing skills and supporting you to apply critical, creative and reflective thinking to solve complex problems and make effective decisions.

You will study with like-minded people who have a degree or professional qualification and can demonstrate relevant work experience. An integral part of understanding how HRM strategy contributes effectively to the development and implementation of organizational strategy will come from sharing work experiences with fellow students.

Lectures, taught by research active academics with recent industry experience, take place in the evenings thereby minimizing the impact on everyday work commitments.

Successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma stages, along with a management research report, means that you will meet the knowledge requirements of the CIPD professional body. If you successfully complete a dissertation instead of the management report you will graduate with a Masters degree whilst also meeting the knowledge requirements of the CIPD. Both of these routes can be completed in as little as two-years part-time. Alternatively for those wishing to spread the workload over three years, you can complete your dissertation after the two years.
