This course provides you with the technical understanding and management skills required to ensure the security of data and networked systems. Combining theory, tools, methods and management techniques you will design and evaluate secure systems, including viable business continuity and disaster recovery plans. You will also develop some of the forensic and management skills needed to identify attempts to compromise systems and prevent attacks.
In tandem with this, you will develop general computing skills by designing, building and evaluating web-based applications and exploring professional project management, ethical and quality issues. You will also deepen your understanding of research methods.
The course provides a broad, well-balanced perspective, to prepare you for a career in data and IT security management. Many of our students already work in the industry and come to us to gain relevant qualifications. We encourage you to build on any previous expertise, perhaps using it as a basis for particular projects or your dissertation.
In addition to your own experience, you benefit by drawing on those of the teaching staff, their external business contacts and fellow students. This will give you a solid grounding to follow in the footsteps of previous students who have gained promotion, created their own businesses or progressed to research degrees.
