The University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany is one of Germany's premier places for research in the fields of basic and applied chemistry.
The established Chemistry course is based on a wide-ranging basic and advanced education in the fields of chemistry. Substantiated chemical basics will be teached in all parts of this natural science.
The Chemistry course covers the disciplines of inorganic, organic and physical chemistry as well as modern areas of the theoretical and computer chemistry. The substantial education is performed by lectures and seminars and through experimental work. The experimental work allows an insight in the basic and application oriented chemical research.
A 2-year Master-level is offered based on the 3-year Bachelor-level program. It is possible to focus on a special subject next to the enhanced education in the chemical core disciplines through general, optional and emphasis modules. The Master Thesis concludes the course of study with the title "Master of Science".
The new Chemistry study course centres on a broad core competence in the whole occupational area of chemists. This does not only include knowledge about material propertys and conversions, it also includes key qualifications beyond the professional field. These qualifications are communicating professional matters and to participate in the development of interdisciplinary troubleshooting strategies in heterogeneous teams.
The Master-Phase prepares for job prospects in the range of research and development, for self dependent project work and therefore also for a PhD study. Chemistry has a very high graduation rate. We believe that this trend will continue also for alumni of Bachelor/Master study courses because interested parties of the industrial area (not only the chemical industry) prize the successful project experience of a PhD chemist.
Chemistry (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) includes the core disciplines of Inorganic and General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Theoretical / Computational Chemistry.
Our 5-year Master-level program is divided into two party - 3-year Bachelor's plus 2-year Master's. The Bachelor phase is conceptionally basic and it prepares students for graduate studies and professional work in the chemical sciences, as well as in interdisciplinary areas that rely heavily on chemistry.
In contrast, the Master's program addresses specialized subjects in addition to the more general education in the aforementioned core disciplines through a series of general modules, optional modules and emphasis modules. The Master phase also includes a research project - the Master Thesis - which usually concludes the course of the study.
The study program fosters teaching and education, on one hand, through lectures and seminars and, on the other hand, through experimental work that is performed under supervision in the student and research laboratories.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testPrerequisites for admission to examination concerning the Master-level program is a superior successful completed and appropriate (Bachelor level) study.
Internal Applications
Students of the Bachelor-level program Chemistry at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg get the qualification for admission to the Master-level program with a Bachelor certificate that at least has the overall grade "good". Alternatively there is still the possibility to get the admission by the aptitude test procedure.
Applications from outside the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg
External applicants, who
* have taken a Bachelor examination at another German or foreign university or
* have acquired the diploma, Bachelor or Master from a German university of applied sciences or
* have an other comparable university degree
need to count to the 20% of the best students of their year and they need to pass the degree with an overall grade better than 2,4 (degrees that are graded with an other grading system need to have a predicate similar to "well passed").
Applicants will be affiliated if they have passed the aptitude test procedure. The degrees have to be equal to the Bachelor examination of the Molecular Science study course.

The application form (pdf) for the admission to the Master-level program is available on the website of the registration office (Besides the essential documents that are therein listed you need to enclose to the application form following
* the certificate of the university degree
* a curriculum vitae
