For graduates of any discipline, this programme prepares you to launch your career in accounting, auditing or finance. If you are seeking a general business career, it will give you a deeper understanding of accounting and finance issues.
The course equips you with the skills necessary to make sense of accounting information, analyse problems and participate fully in management decision making. The modules cover all aspects of accounting, providing excellent preparation for a professional qualification. On completion you will be eligible to apply for exemptions from the professional exams of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), a professional qualification recognised by employers worldwide.

Course length
Full-time: 12 months
Part-time: 2 years
All the modules on this degree are compulsory. The Business Concepts module provides students with an introduction to the fundamental business disciplines and starts to explore how these relate to accounting practice. The module will also introduce students from a wide range of academic and cultural backgrounds to the study skills that they will need in order to be successful on the remainder of the programme.
In Semester 1 students will study three modules.
* Management Accounting Techniques introduces students to the key management accounting concepts and techniques. The key disciplinary areas of planning, controlling, decision-making and performance measurement will form the basis of the module.
* Financial Accounting Techniques introduces students to the basic theories and techniques of financial accounting.
* Corporate Finance Concepts considers how accounting and corporate finance issues are related. Fundamental ideas and theories of corporate finance will be studied and links made between accounting practice and corporate financial decisions.
In Semester 2 students will study three further modules.
Decision Making and Control - will take the basic management accounting concepts studied in Semester 1 and use them as the basis for advanced study of management accounting. In addition the module will consider the links between accounting control, business strategy and performance management systems.
Financial Reporting - will look at more advanced topics in reporting including some specific problem areas for reporting such as accounting for intangible assets.
Audit and Assurance - will cover key aspects of auditing theory and practice alongside an introduction to governance issues as they relate to accounting.
During the six taught modules students will develop the research methods skills required by professional accountants. They will put these skills to use in the Contemporary Research for Accounting Practice module. This module has two functions. Firstly, it is designed to give students the opportunity to apply their learning from the taught modules of the MSc Accounting to typical multifaceted technical and managerial problems faced by practising accountants. It also allows them to use the research skills developed through the programme to study a particular contemporary accounting issue in depth, to draw conclusions and to make recommendations to organisations and policy makers. The module emphasises the links between research, analysis and practice.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

A minimum of a good second-class honours degree in any subject. You will need to show significant evidence of numeric ability either from your undergraduate degree or from advanced school qualifications (for example an A-level or high grade GCSE in maths). Applications from students without these qualifications but with relevant work experience will be considered.
English language requirements
* IELTS minimum level 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in the reading and writing components
* TOEFL score of 90 or above (internet-based), plus 4.5 in TWE.
