The duration of the Military Electronic Systems Engineering MSc is 47 weeks, comprising a taught phase of 28 weeks followed by an individual project phase.

During the taught phase, the course progresses from introductory academic studies through to systems topics. Because the main focus of the course is electronic warfare in relation to communications and sensor systems, a good understanding of these systems is required before going on to look at how to defend them from electronic attack or intercept - the course also covers these areas so that successful graduates are versed in all aspects of electronic warfare.

Throughout the latter part of the taught phase, there is a broad range of visits to industry and defence establishments.

In the project phase, students undertake an individual specialist project in a subject area of their choice, to meet their future career needs. Often these projects are supported or sponsored by research establishments or other agencies to reinforce this link between the course and future career requirements.

Suitably qualified candidates who achieve an appropriate standard on the course are awarded either the MSc Degree or the Cranfield University Postgraduate Diploma in Military Electronic Systems Engineering.

The course comprises two phases, namely a taught phase and the project. The taught phase has duration of 29 weeks and is assessed by a combination of set assignments and examinations. The project phase lasts for 18 weeks and is assessed by a thesis and a viva-voce examination.

The student takes 7 compulsory modules, totalling 100 credits + optional (O) modules to the value of 20 credits for the PGDip; additionally, for the MSc, the student must take the project.

Assessment

The taught phase is assessed by written examinations and coursework. The project is assessed by a written report and an oral examination.
