The Military Vehicle Technology course is designed to provide students with the principles of military vehicle technology. During the course, we make reference to specific vehicles only to illustrate these principles.
The course pays special attention to:
* the study of advances in vehicle technology
* developing skills in the analysis and evaluation of new concepts against changes and developments in the threat
* the user requirements needed to meet the threat and its implications.
The course aims to cover all aspects of technology of military fighting and logistic vehicles in depth, yet offers a degree of choice and specialisation to students having differing backgrounds, interests, or requirements.
The course (full-time) runs annually from September to July inclusive. The taught content is divided into subject modules, which are usually one week in duration.
Suitable for education and training at postgraduate level for military officers, defence industry staff and government staff. It is particularly suitable as a preparation for senior posts in military vehicle project management teams.
Takes you on to technically demanding appointments concerned with the design, development, procurement and operation of military vehicles.
You will be taught by Cranfield University academic staff at the Defence Academy - College of Management and Technology who understand the challenges of translating theory into practice. Visiting lecturers include experts from industry, research establishments and Government departments, particularly the MOD.
The core modules are designed to give a balanced, broad coverage of the whole vehicle and its sub-systems. These are supplemented by specialised or advanced modules, some of which are optional to enable individual students to expand their expertise in areas particular to their own interests and those of their sponsors.
The modular teaching programme culminates in an integrating Armoured Fighting Vehicle and Weapon Systems study. This draws together the material taught in the preceding modules and considers the design of the whole vehicle system. This includes the trade-offs and compromises necessary to achieve the optimum operational performance and reliability at a realistic cost. A visit programme to vehicle and subsystem manufacturers and military units supplements the academic instruction.
The taught part of the course is complemented by an individual project aimed to develop the student's expertise in engineering research, design or development in the field of military vehicle technology.
The MSc is built-up from core modules, which are compulsory, and optional modules which are chosen by the student according to their interests. The core modules are:
* Finite Element Methods in Engineering
* Modelling, Simulation and Control
* Weapon Systems Technology
* Military Vehicle Dynamics
* Survivability
* Military Vehicle Propulsion
* Armoured Fighting Vehicle and Weapon Systems Study
Optional modules include:
* Fundamentals of Ballistics
* Light Weapon Design
* Guided Weapons
* Computer Aided Design
* Reliability and System Effectiveness
* Element Design
* Rocket Motors and Propellants
* Vehicle System Integration
* Gun Systems Design
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testNormally a 1st or 2nd class UK Honours degree or equivalent in engineering, mathematics, applied science or the professional equivalent. Students whose first language is not English must also attain an IELTS score of 7.
