The course is directed by an industrial advisory committee comprising senior representatives from leading airports and associated sectors. This group ensures that the course content equips you with the skills and knowledge required by leading employers.
There is also a part-time option for this course.
With such a range of employment destinations, from airport management to management consultancy, the MSc in Airport Planning and Management is designed to cover a wide area of expertise while allowing appropriate specialisation. Many of the lecture modules include case study project sessions and seminars may also be led by senior visitors from industry. Airport planning and management students receive a subscription to the online news service ‘Air Transport Intelligence’.
The course has three elements: taught modules, group project and a research thesis.

The eleven modules are:

Group project
Students are divided into groups and asked to solve a particular research problem. Each group submits a report and delivers a presentation of their findings and recommendations.
Research thesis
The research thesis is an opportunity to study a problem in detail, and sponsoring organisations may cooperate in the choice of a suitable subject.
Research thesis topics vary widely. The following is a sample of recent theses that have been undertaken by airport planning and management students :
* An investigation into the influence of non-auditory factors on community response to aircraft noise.
* Developing a model to analyze the impacts of self-service and web check-in at airports.
* Analysing the implications of breaking-up BAA's sole ownership of Glasgow and Edinburgh airports
Assessment
Each module is assessed by an assignment and an examination. The mode of teaching includes a combination of lectures and workshops.
