Location of Chalmers University of Technology

There is a new scenario in the field of energy, and concerns related to global warming, depletion of fossil fuel resources and security of supply play a major role.

This master’s programme was specially designed to meet the challenges that arise due to substantial changes in the field of energy. Our goal is to turn bachelor’s degree holders into energy engineers who master not only the current energy systems and technologies but also those to come.

Our students are provided with a unique state-of the-art education in the area of advanced energy technologies and systems, delivered by world-leading researchers and lecturers in the field of energy who have very close contact with industry and companies in the energy sector.

Who should apply

In addition to the formal prerequisites, students need to have a strong interest in the field of energy engineering and sustainability.

Why apply

The development of sustainable energy system solutions is at the top of political agendas all over the world. Major investments in new energy technologies and systems to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions will in all likelihood continue growing over the coming decades. Chalmers has put energy research at the top of its budget list for its strategic research plan.

The programme takes advantage of the university’s close research collaboration with many key players in the energy sector by offering a master’s thesis, study cases and lectures in co-operation with industry. Students develop the proficiency needed to undertake energy engineering tasks that take technical, environmental and financial aspects into account.

Connections

Chalmers has a very strong international position in energy research, with external research funding from industry, the EU and the Swedish Energy Agency in the areas of energy conversion technologies and energy systems analysis and design.

Our world-leading research groups follow various lines

At a process level: Carbon and Capture Storage technologies (such as chemical looping and oxyfuel combustion), process integration, optimization and CO2 mitigation, smart power grids, hybrid vehicles, wind power and indoor environment

From a global energy systems perspective: sustainable development, complex systems, life cycle, ecological risk and environmental assessments, and energy systems modelling and planning.

This state-of-the-art knowledge is extremely valuable for energy engineers, and is also expected to ensure that our students form a strong recruitment pool for our PhD programmes within the field of energy research.
