Engineering software development is one of the key players in the UK and EU information technology sector. It is a fast moving subject of crucial importance to industry and forms the basis for a wide and ever growing variety of applications. In particular, these include computer aided engineering and digital signal and image processing systems. Such software forms a vital part of many industries including those of oil, automotive, aerospace, defence and health.
The course exposes the student to the latest advances in engineering software development and its applications as well as providing opportunities to develop broader skills and responsibilities that may be called upon in the workplace.
The MSc in Computational and Software Techniques in Engineering has the following options:
* Advanced Engineering Analysis and Design
* Digital Signal and Image Processing
* Grid Computing & e-Engineering
* Software Engineering for Technical Computing (SETC)
The course consists of three parts: core modules, specialist modules and individual research thesis. Students begin by following a set of five core modules:
* C Programming and Software Engineering
* Management for Technology
* Computational Methods
* Visualisation/GUIs
* C++ Programming.
Under the guidance of the Course Director - and subject to module dependencies, students then select a further five specialist modules from a choice of seven within one of the following four options:
* Advanced Engineering Analysis and Design
* Digital Signal and Image Processing
* Grid Computing & e-Engineering
* Software Engineering for Technical Computing (SETC)
Individual research thesis
Students then go on to undertake an individual research thesis project, allowing specialisation within an area of particular interest.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

A CEng accredited 1st or 2nd class UK honours degree in engineering, or an equivalent degree in engineering, engineering science, physics, applied mathematics or other appropriate applied science.
