The MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) Program offers the unique combination of a world-class supply chain degree taught in a truly global setting. The ZLOG program is built on the top-ranked curriculum at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Nine months of challenging coursework, cutting edge research, and industry interaction provide ZLOG graduates with the problem solving and leadership skills that companies seek in an increasingly complex and dynamic marketplace.
Based in Zaragoza, Spain, ZLOG is part of the MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program – a unique research and education partnership between academia, industry and government that develops and disseminates innovative supply chain concepts within one of the largest and most successful logistics parks in Europe. While there, students have the opportunity to interact and learn from faculty, researchers and fellow students from around the globe. The strong combination of international experience and supply chain expertise provides ZLOG graduates with an opportunity to make an impact in a wide range of industries worldwide.
The MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) Program requires nine months of full time study through English, beginning in late August and concluding with commencement the following May. The academic calendar is divided into four major phases: Orientation, Fall Semester, International Exchange, and Spring Semester.
Orientation Period – Orientation takes ZLOG students to the Pyrenees, a majestic mountain range on Spain´s border with France, for a combination of recreational, cultural, and educational activities. During this week, ZLOG students begin building the personal and professional bonds that will benefit them during both the academic year and throughout their future careers.
Fall Semester – Fall Semester focuses on providing students with the basic theory and tools used in the analysis, design and operation of logistics systems and integrated supply chains. These fundamentals form the foundation for advanced courses, thesis research, and will have continued application throughout their professional life.
International Exchange – During a unique four-week term in January, ZLOG students participate in an international exchange with students from MLOG their sister program at MIT. The MLOG and ZLOG students study together at both the ZLC and the MIT campus, taking two modules focusing on teamwork and organizational transformation:
Supply Chain Innovations and Leadership Series (SCILS) – Several supply chain executives visit MIT and Zaragoza offering seminars to provide a practical perspective on real-world and leadership issues.
Supply Chain Challenge – MLOG-ZLOG teams compete against each other during this 2-week-long supply chain simulation game, in which they must manage an international supply chain in a virtual marketplace.
Spring Semester – Spring Semester allows students to specialize through elective courses and thesis research. Students also learn how to align innovative supply chain management with corporate strategy to create opportunities in various competitive environments.
Commencement – ZLOG students celebrate the completion of their studies in May with a special Commencement Ceremony and reception hosted by the President of Aragon and Rector of the University of Zaragoza. Past commencement addresses have been given by John Allan, CEO of Exel Logistics,Marie-Christine Lombard, Head of TNT Express, Dr. Hans-Joachim Körber, Chairman and CEO, Metro Group, Dr. Subra Suresh, Dean, MIT School of Engineering, and Dr. Yosef Sheffi, Director, Engineering Systems Division, MIT, and Mr. Ezequiel Szafir, Group General Manager, Grupo Cortefiel.
