As the Earth’s population rises and the global demand for consumable products increases, the amount of waste produced and energy consumed world-wide through both production and consumption is on an alarming rise. As more and more companies look for methods of making this cycle sustainable, the services of an appropriately qualified engineer become very attractive.
The objective of the Master’s Programme in Sustainable Engineering is to increase your competence in developing and applying systems and technology for producing renewable energy and materials from wastes. You will be well prepared for future research and will also achieve a broader competence in Sustainability. The challenges for engineers and scientists within this field are therefore enormous. With some exceptions, the traditional way of land-filling is not longer an acceptable solution if the aim is a sustainable use of natural resources. It is also of great importance to reduce the green house effects by replacing fossil fuels with bio-fuels. Besides the environmental aspects, the economical values of the waste as well as economical and technical conditions have to be considered.
The programme is aimed at providing you with skills and knowledge to be able to develop and introduce sustainable systems and technology in the material, energy and recycling sectors. The central focus of the programme is resource management and recycling of materials. The programme also aims at preparing you for PhD studies. A broad spectrum of different areas of engineering will be studied. To analyze and compare different alternatives of waste treatment, life cycle assessment becomes an important tool. Skills in oral and written presentations are also vital, if ideas and thoughts are to be communicated and applied successfully. The studies are strongly connected to the research areas bioethanol, biogas, biopolymers and energy recovery.
