The MA "Kinder- und Jugendmedien" (Children, Adolescents, and the Media) is a joint program of the Faculty of Humanties (Seminar for Communication) and the Faculty of Education. It integrates approaches in communication studies and education in order to comprehend the particular situation of children and adolescents and the functions media may fulfill for them. We integrate approaches from other social sciences, developmental research or media literacy research and medie pedagogy.
The focus of the program is the analysis of media for children and adolescent and the critical evaluation of mass media communication.We approach both old and new media - from children's books to video games and social networking site - but show a keen interest in new, digital media.
Our theoretical approaches are multidisciplinary. We focus on different, empirical method both from a qualitative and quantitative perspective. Children and adolescents, our research subjects, are always in the focus of our attention.
The MA Children, Adolescents, and the Media is an academic program with a emphazis on solid theoretical work and empirical application. Course work is project centred and research focused.
The MA Program comprises of seven moduls: Two mandatory moduls and five optional modus. Each student has to take the two mandatory moduls plus three of the optional moduls. Each optional modul consits of two to three seminars. The last semester is reserved for the MA thesis which will be an indigenous empirical study.

Courses are in German. Cooperations with English speaking lecturers are planned. Basic English skills are required. Fluent English reading skills are recommended. Applicants must hold a degree in communication, media studies, education or related subjects and proof 9 ECTS credits in academic research methods and/or statistics.
