It aims to provide a rigorous grounding in the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary for participants to operate effectively as strategic general managers in a variety of environments.
Our course offers:
a comprehensive introduction to functional aspects of business
a sound integration of theory and practice
development of personal managerial skills
instruction in techniques of strategic analysis
The University's provision in Business and Management was rated 'Excellent' in the most recent subject reviews by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, and this MBA complies fully with all QAA benchmarks.
Key features of the course are the UK residential conference, held over a weekend at the start of the course, and small teaching groups, as we believe that personal attention is necessary for success on an MBA. There is also an emphasis on teamwork and personal development.

Careers
Successful MBA graduates are more likely to gain increased responsibilities at work, secure promotion and in general enjoy enhanced career opportunities. Graduates may also progress to further study. Recent graduates have found new employment opportunities both in the UK and abroad whilst some have successfully started their own businesses following completion of the course.

Contents

The MBA (full-time) is divided into two taught stages. Stage One lasts one semester and consists of seven modules, which give a solid grounding in all the key business functions. Stage Two has a strategic emphasis and consists of five modules and a dissertation.

Stage One modules are: * Leadership and Management Development (residential)
* Managing Finance and Accounting
* The Economic and Global Context
* Managing Information Systems
* Marketing and Operations Management
* Managing People
* Research Methods A

Stage Two relates the material of Stage One to major strategic issues.

The modules are: * Management of Change and Innovation
* Comparative Management
* Strategic Management
* Research Methods B
* There is also an elective module that enables you to focus on a particular area of business

The elective module (which is a module of your choice that is used to further focus study in a particular area of management) is drawn from the range of broad provision available within the Business School. The dissertation is a major piece of work of approximately 15,000 words, based on research into an organisation. The Research Methods module in Stage Two of the course prepares you for this.
