The MA in International Economics and Trade is designed to provide you with a thorough understanding of trends and contemporary issues in the global economy.

It is based on a foundation of international economic theory, which is then applied to the study of international trade policies and to the globalisation of finance.

The aim is to evaluate how the interactions between governments, corporations and markets impact on economic performance, development and welfare.

Considerable attention is given to studying the institutional framework of the global economy by looking at international organisations such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World Trade Organisation. The course also evaluates the significance of government policies and the rise of regional trade blocs such as, for example, the European Union, NAFTA, Mercosur and ASEAN.

Career opportunities

The course would be suitable for those who are seeking careers in international business, government or international policy organisations. You may also apply to develop your dissertation topic into an MPhil/PhD course.
