Take advantage of the faculty's experience in this area, and go on to a career in any sector where this branch of economics matters, such as consultancy on transport and logistics, urban development and management; or various transport sectors, property development, finance, or government.
Behavioural Economics:
Behavioural Economics is a popular, new stream of economics based on the psychology of human behavior. It shows how economic predictions and policies can be improved using insights from psychology. The Master specialisation is split into: traditional economics and behavioural economics courses. A student with a solid training in traditional economics and further training in Behavioural Economics is valuable to both the private and public sector. Training in traditional economics enables an economist to familiarise with the tools (financial) used to analyze and design policies and strategies. Training in Behavioural Economics enables him to recognise why some economic policies and strategies systematically fail and how to improve them.
Economics of Management and Organisation:
The combination of economic theory, empirical techniques, and practical applications provides insights on how to run a firm. In the programme, students acquire skills and tools that allow them to create solutions to problems faced by managers today, and those they will face in 20 years on. We strive for the best academic standards, and provide programme content that is practical and relevant to real organisations. Teaching often draws on the staff's recent research and interaction with practitioners. Due to the combination of academic rigor and practical applicability the programme is suitable for students interested in organisational economics and those who wish to learn what drives standard practice in management accounting and control.
Entrepreneurship and Strategy Economics:
Catch the spirit of independence in business, and see the economy through the prism of entrepreneurship. Learn what makes it tick and about the changes it faces in technology, about shifting consumer preferences, and about where resources come from and how they can be used. Venture to explore the questions the makers of new business face: What to produce, and how much? How to respond to market conditions, and to opportunities and threats? Learn how the enterprise is structured, as well as about hiring, incentives, and performance. Discover how creativity is stimulated. Explore these and other issues in a specialisation that is second to none, at the Erasmus School of Economics, a highly regarded institution in a self-made city on the move.
Health Economics:
This specialisation is a joint venture between the Erasmus School of Economics and the Institute of Health Policy & Management. The latter is one of the leading centers in the world for health economics research and training. It is aimed at students with a basic training in economics who wish to specialize in health economics. Its students will be trained to apply the concepts and tools of economic analysis to health and health care, including the functioning of health care markets and the economic evaluation of health care programmes and interventions. Health economics is a rapidly expanding field. The expansion is fuelled by the continuing drive to reform health care systems and the increasing importance of economic evaluation in health policy. This has led to a steadily increasing demand for trained health economists. Health Economics aims to be a response to the current excess demand for health analysts with an economics background.
International Economics:
The Master specialisation in International Economics is aimed at students who are interested in the applied study of the international economic and business policy environment. The objectives of the specialisation in International Economics is to provide students with the analytical and practical training to work in the field of global economics, whether as managers, consultants, policy advisors, bankers, researchers or at governmental or international agencies. Furthermore, the programme aims to provide a better understanding of the economic forces underlying the increased interdependence of nations.
