The LLM in Criminal Justice reflects established areas of research strength in the School of Law, and offers options which are both of international and/or comparative relevance and which meet the demand for studying contemporary issues in comparative criminal justice at an advanced level.

Teaching
Teaching is organised on a modular basis. There are two 12-week semesters, the first beginning at the end of September, the second at the end of January. Students can join either in September or January. Examinations are held at the end of each semester, in January and May. The dissertation is submitted on the 1st September each year, regardless of start date. Courses are offered subject to the availability of staff, sufficient enrolment and sabbatical arrangements. Contents

Students must complete four courses, a course in research methods, and a dissertation. At least three of courses must be taken from the Criminal Justice list below. The other course can be taken from a different LLM Programme. The list below gives an indication of the courses available. Students should note, however, that courses are offered subject to staff availability, sabbatical arrangements and sufficient enroloment. The number in brackets indicates the semester in which the course is taught.

Assessment
Assessment is based on a combination of written examination at the end of the relevant semester and one or more course essays. In addition, students must complete a course in research methods and a dissertation on a topic within the specialism. The dissertation is planned and written between March and August each year. Guidance on the writing of a dissertation is given.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Normally a 2(1) Honours degree in Law, or in another related discipline, or equivalent. The English Language Requirement for all College of Arts and Social Sciences Masters programmes is an IELTS of 6.5 with 6.0 in the writing and reading (or equivalent TOEFL iBT or PTE). For more information see
