The programme aims to:
·Develop interest in, and knowledge of, economics, investment, finance and management as analytical frameworks for understanding the operations and functions of real estate markets and institutions.
· Equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the current and future challenges associated with professional practice in the field of international real estate.
The MSc International Real Estate Markets is accredited by the RICS, allowing graduates to proceed to the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence and full professional membership of the RICS.

The MSc International Real Estate Markets sets the analysis of international real estate markets within the context of economics, finance and law.
First Semester
Real Estate Economics - Economic characteristics of real estate. Institutional and regulatory environment of real estate (including legal and planning controls). Real estate market analysis: use, investment and development. Sector analysis: offices, retail, industrial, housing.
Property Law and Institutions - The legal environment of real estate. Basic business law. Legal basis of land tenure, land registration, real estate ownership, landlord and tenant relationships, obligations and restrictions. Planning law and policy. Professional institutions and regulation. Ethics and professional codes of conduct.
Valuation and Finance - Mathematics of valuation and investment. Principles underlying basic valuation and investment formulae. Principal methods of valuation. Critical examination of conventional and alternative approaches to valuation.
Second Semester
Advanced Valuation and Development - Use of computer spreadsheets. RICS Appraisal and Valuation Standards. Development valuation, valuation of over-rented real estate, trade related valuations and goodwill, valuation of leases, calculations of worth, risk measurement. Basis of local real estate tax. Basis of national taxation.
International Real Estate - International real estate market analysis. Real estate market integration. Internationalisation of use, investment, development and real estate service provision. Institutional change in international real estate markets. European field trip and project to examine a specific real estate market.
Real Estate Finance - Modern concepts of corporate real estate. Corporate real estate, business strategy corporate finance. Real estate as an investment class. Indirect real estate investment. International real estate investment. Techniques of real estate investment analysis.
Final Stage (One of the following options). Students should consider having a fund of £4000 - £5000 to cover the international element of the programme (to cover tuition fees, visa fees, travel, accommodation and living expenses)
Option A
Two modules depending on availability (delivered in Hong Kong) for example:
o Development Case Studies - Case studies based examination of actual development projects.
o Professional Report - A studio module with emphasis on one of the specialist real estate elements.
o Development Projects - Critical examination of problems in planning and development practice.
Plus:
Property Case Study - Formulation, design and implementation of a professional case study investigation on an approved topic in real estate practice.
and International Real Estate Market Report - Formulation, design and implementation of a market report on an approved topic in international real estate .
Option B
Two modules depending on availability (delivered in San Diego)
o Seminar in Real Estate Finance and Valuation
o Case Studies in Financial Management
o Seminar in International Business Finance
o Seminar in Business Ethics and Social Institutions
o Seminar in Negotiations

Property Dissertation: The aim of the course is to examine the practice of academic and professional property research and to undertake an independent research study on an approved property topic.

Register Now!The minimum requirement is a good first degree (equivalent to a British second-class Honours degree) or above in any discipline. The Director of Graduate Programmes will consider applicants with non-standard qualifications, particularly those with considerable practitioner experience. Evidence of English language proficiency is also required.
The following qualifications are acceptable as providing evidence of proficiency for Graduate programmes in Business. Tests should be taken within two years of applying to the University of Aberdeen for entry:
Either IELTS or TOEFL qualifications are acceptable. IELTS Band 7.0 or above and 6 in the writing component. TOEFL 600 or above or the computer-based TOEFL score 250 or above. In both forms of the test, you must also get 5.0 in the TWE. TOEFL ibt score must be 100, plus 20- 24 in the TWE.
Applicants who do not meet the above standard, may be offered entry on the condition that they undertake the 13month programme including a four week Business Skills & Communication Course run by the Language Centre at the University of Aberdeen.
Please note, students who accept an offer of a place will be asked to pay a deposit (approximately 10% of the total programme fee) to secure their place. This deposit is later deducted from the tuition fees payable at registration. See for further details.
