With six departments and over 20 research groups dedicated to plant sciences the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn is a great place to expand the frontiers of knowledge on fundamental and practical aspects of plant science.
In this research environment the new M.Sc. program “Plant Sciences” has been launched in the winter term 2008.
The formal curriculum of the 2-year, international M.Sc. program offers a wide selection of courses: from Transgenic Plants to Plant Biodiversity and Systematics, from Plant Physiology and Biotechnology to Paleobotany, from Plant Molecular Evolution to Ecology and Conservation.
After a choice of academic modules inEnglish, including obligatory lectures on Plant Physiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, on Plant Biodiversity, Systematics and Evolution and on Plant Cell Biology as well as corresponding choices of lab courses, students will be offered maximum freedom to choose from an array of optional modules and lab courses to meet their personal interests. A catalogue of 30 modules is offered during the three semesters of study towards a Master thesis in the fourth semester.
The course program is consistently modularized to offer transparent module choices and maximal interchangeability according to the European Credit Point Transfer System (ECTS). The Plant Sciences Master’s Degree requires that students accumulate 120 credit points (CP) in total – 30 CP per semester.
Additional courses or lab courses agreed upon on an individual basis may be attended at co-operating Non-University institutions, such as e.g. the Forschungszentrum Jülich (Institut für Phytosphäre) or the Max-Planck-Institut für Züchtungsforschung, Köln (MPI for Breeding Research, Cologne), which will be credited for the students’ course programmes. Modules accomplished in accredited course programmes at other EU universities complying with the ECTS will likewise be taken into account.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
