The aim of this course is to provide students who wish to pursue careers in this area, and those working in the addictions field, with an up-to-date scientific and academic knowledge of addiction. The course will also provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge relating to the main factors influencing addiction including biological, social, cultural, psychological and economic perspectives.

Careers
The course provides an opportunity for career progression for those already working within the field of addiction or cognate areas. The course also provides an excellent theoretical and practical knowledge for those wishing to pursue careers in addiction e.g. drug workers, specialist nurses, project workers.
Course contents
The course is organised into three modules one of which is compulsory. Teaching takes place in the afternoon’s and evening’s of two days: Tuesday and Wednesday - depending on options taken.
Modules include:
* Introduction to Addiction (compulsory)
* Consequences of Addiction
* Non-drug Addictions and Addiction in Special Populations
* Biological Bases of Addiction
* Treatment Options in Addiction
Teaching methods
The course is taught via a large range of different teaching methods including: lectures, seminars, class discussions, workshops, group work and individual supervision.
Assessment
Assessment is based on a combination of presentations, course work and examinations.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testThe minimum entry requirement is normally a lower second-class Honours degree in the area of Health and Human Sciences. Graduates from other disciplines who have extensive relevant work experience will be considered on an individual basis.
