The International Business Faculty is a part of the Marketing and Management Department of the Aalto University School of Economics.
Since its establishment in 1977, International Business (IB) has developed into an independent, full scale program conducted in English. Since the fall of 2005 International Business has specialized in M.Sc. (Econ) and D.Sc. (Econ) Degree Studies.
So far nearly 800 Master's level students and 30 Doctoral students have graduated in International Business from Aalto University School of Economics (formerly Helsinki School of Economics). International Business graduates typically start in challenging positions in consulting firms, multinational companies or international organizations. Typical entry level jobs being Analyst, Junior Consultant, Sales Manager, Area Manager, or HR Specialist.
International Business at the Aalto University School of Economics focuses its research and teaching efforts on the key areas of:
* Internationalization and Globalization Processes of Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs)
* Management of Multinational Corporations (MNCs)
* International and Global Marketing.
IB courses utilize various teaching methods, such as cases, teamwork, real-life company projects, and computer-assisted teaching. IB courses are often highly interactive in nature and include intensively taught courses as well as courses lasting a whole period or semester.
The Master's Degree in International Business is a two year program designed to provide the student with the competence and tools to analyze, plan and manage global business while facing different markets, business practices, cultures, and political and legal environments.
Master's level students of the department of marketing and management can also enroll in the International Business minor. The Area Studies minor is offered to all master level students.
Additionally, the International Business Faculty coordinates the International Design Business Management (IDBM) Program. IDBM is a joint program acorss the three Aalto University schools. Teams of students from each school work on an industry project and attend courses from the partner schools. The program has a separate application procedure.
Teaching Methods
The objective of the degree program is to provide the student with competence and tools to analyze, plan and manage global business while facing different markets, business practices, cultures, and political and legal environments.
Most of the International Business courses build on cases, other exercises, and visiting industry experts. Thus active participation is essential. The faculty has a long history of utilizing overseas visiting professors in teaching. Hence, some International Business courses are run as intensive three week courses although most courses last a few months at a time.

* Effects of institutional constraints to foreign market entry strategies of Finnish ICT-companies in Sub-Saharan Africa

Register Now!To be considered for admission, the applicant must have completed at least 24 ECTS credits of such studies that give the applicant the ability to start the advanced studies in the Master’s degree program of International Business. Thesis works or internships cannot be included in the credits. Previous studies/credits the applicant has completed in the core area of the degree program, giving the ability to start the advanced studies, are assessed by a representative of the degree program.
Credits completed in the following fields or fields that the Aalto University School of
Economics considers to be corresponding may be considered: International Business,
Marketing, Management and Business Communication. Additionally, the weighted Grade
Point Average (GPA) of those courses taken into account needs be at least “very good”.
Please also note that applicants must have excellent English language abilities because the program is conducted completely in English.
