This M.Sc. is the leading graduate programme of its kind in Ireland. It provides a broad introduction to the range of business and management disciplines required by recent graduates who have not studied these disciplines previously, as well as those who lack the necessary depth of work experience for admission to the DCU MBA programme.
Employers today place a high value on individuals who possess cross-disciplinary skills and insights. This programme will help you to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to operate successfully in a business environment, which increasingly requires a strong combination of technical and managerial skills. By combining the M.Sc. with a primary degree from a specialist field, your employment opportunities will be enhanced significantly.
Aims and Objectives:
Aims and Objectives
* To understand the principles of business and management.
* To gain insights into how organisations operate and how individuals behave within those organisations.
* To acquire the analytical, conceptual and practical tools necessary for managerial decision-making.
* To engage in research and to produce an in-depth analysis and evaluation of a business issue.
* To develop the range of skills necessary to operate successfully in a business environment, including analytical, technical, teamworking, presentation, report writing and communication skills.
This one year, full-time programme delivers modules through a combination of lectures, seminars and workshops, while the dissertation or group practicum must be submitted by the end of July.
The M.Sc. in Business Management is part of DCU Business School's Next Generation Management initiative This starts with a pre-semester, week-long immersion course to provide students with the opportunity to develop the competencies required for successful management careers. It focuses on four key themes: personal and career development; leadership, teamwork and corporate accountability; global and societal awareness; and research, media and communication.
You are given many opportunities to apply your knowledge to real-world projects. As well as undertaking industry-relevant projects, you can work in a group to complete a major practical project in lieu of an individual dissertation. Projects are sourced from DCU's research centres, corporate clients, or may be based on students' own insights and ideas.
Coupled with their primary degree, graduates of the M.Sc. in Business Management are members of an exclusive group of multi-disciplinary graduates. This is a significant differentiator in the increasingly competitive postgraduate employment market. Graduates have been employed in a wide variety of industries and functions by leading indigenous and international organisations including eBay, IBM, Goldman Sachs, Helena Rubenstein, Irish Cement, Kerry Foods, Unicredit and GAM Fund Management.
