We are standing in front of big challenges when it comes to handle our living environment. Knowledge about the current and future state of our ecosystems and the use of our natural resources are essential to manage these challenges in a professional way. The programme provides the students with theoretical and practical training in data collection, and methods for analysing and presentation of data. In addition, you will train communication skills to be able to discuss environmental issues with stakeholders and decision-makers. The knowledge you obtain will be an important part of the development towards a sustainable society when put into practice in working life.
Future
The programme will provide you with a unique profile and good qualifications for a career at local, national and international authorities and companies working within the field of environmental monitoring. Your knowledge of how to accomplish environment monitoring and analyse data will be important in future decisions for a sustainable society. The programme can also be as a first step in a research career at universities or at research institutes.
The two years programme provides students with theoretical and practical training in data collection, and methods of analysing and presenting data. You will learn to manage large quantities of data and use statistical methods to make accurate assessments and analyses. In addition, you will train communication skills needed for discussions of environmental issues with stakeholders and decision makers.
The first year consists of seven coordinated courses:
All first-year courses include case studies using real life data from environmental monitoring programmes.
The second year includes an individual master’s thesis, and time for optional courses during third term. First-year compulsory courses take place in Umeå; second-year studies can be pursued at the SLU campus in Umeå, Uppsala or Alnarp.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
