The new programme will bring three of the existing Masters programmes: MA Educational Studies, MSc Leadership & Management and MSc Educational Research Methods under a common framework. The new programme, which has as its focus Contemporary Issues in International Education, has 4 Specialist Pathways which include the above three areas plus a new area of study, Educational Innovation and Reform.
Aims and Objectives of the Programme
The MA International Education offers teachers, lecturers and educational leaders in
schools, colleges and universities a unique opportunity to reflect upon their own practice
and to enhance their knowledge.
The general aims of the course are to:
* enhance understanding of contemporary educational issues for teachers in primary, secondary and post-compulsory education;
* develop an ability to reflect on theory in the area of teaching and learning and use it as the basis for understanding and improving practice;
* develop an ability to undertake small scale research;
* give training in the use of qualitative and quantitativeresearch methods in educational contexts;
* develop transferable skills and their application in educational and related areas;
* develop the research skills needed for advanced educational research at doctoral level.
Students will be enabled to:
* develop an understanding of pedagogical theories;
* appreciate the relationship between theory and practice in teaching;
* understand the influences of societal or national / regional / religious culture on teaching;
* evaluate the use and management of learning resources, including ICT, for learners within their phase of education;
* understand the various elements of the planning, monitoring and evaluation cycle as applied to teaching;
* understand how to carry out and present small-scale research on the topic of effective teaching.
Course modules
Students will undertake the following two core modules:
* Contemporary Issues in International Education
* Introduction to Educational Research Methods
And then choose one of the following specialist pathways which focus on different aspects of international education:
* Innovation and Reform (Lead module plus one other module)
* Leadership and Management (Lead module plus one other module)
* Pedagogy (Lead module plus one other module)
* Research Methods (Lead module plus one other module)
Teaching and assessment methods
Modules are delivered by a combination of face-to-face seminars, classes and workshops supported by an online repository of relevant materials and the University Library, and students´ independent study. Course assessment will be by means of written essays and presentations, as well as a 15,000 - 20,000 word dissertation.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Demonstrable experience of working in education is a welcome but not essential attribute. This may be practical experience of teaching in schools and/or comprise a substantial element of an applicant´s first degree.
