The course aims to enable students to understand how a range of scientific disciplines can be used to structure inquiry and develop the evidence base for applied health research.

The course offers a sound grounding in research methods, research practice, and theory as well as developing key transferable skills in research practice, critical appraisal, academic writing, project management, communication and presentation of research, and research management, policy, governance and ethics.

One year full-time or two years part time.


Contents

Course modules
The course comprises three compulsory modules (Foundations, Quantitative and Qualitative methods) and an extended dissertation. Students successfully completing only the taught modules will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Health Research.

Teaching and assessment methods
Taught modules will use a variety of assessment methods, including oral presentations, assignments and written tests. Participants who successfully complete the three taught modules are awarded a Certificate in Applied Health Research. The dissertation will be assessed by submission of a protocol, a 15-20,000 word dissertation and an oral examination.

Each module comprises one full day of teaching on the same day each week for five to six weeks. Each student is allocated a personal tutor as well as a supervisor for their dissertation

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
