New information technology is forever changing the media and our means of communicating. To take an active part in this dynamic development it is essential to be able to design, communicate, interpret and publish with the tools made available by the new media. Therefore the course offered by the Department of Media Production at the University of Applied Sciences Ostwestfalen-Lippe covers not only design, but also the technological and economical skills required for working in the audiovisual and interactive media.

Media Production Department
Media Production at the University of Applied Sciences, Ostwestfalen-Lippe is a hands-on course, which focuses mainly on the electronic media. The subject areas covered by the department include: Video, Audio, Computer Graphics, Animation and Interactive Applications.

The Bachelor programme is split into 6 semesters. The students are able to gain unique insights to becoming Media Producers as the course highlights the economical, technical and creative sides of the job. The aim of this 3-fold method is to offer an all-round approach to the knowledge and abilities required by this profession and the complex tasks it incorporates. A Media Producer is traditionally involved in a wide range of operations, therefore demanding knowledge of different but also overlapping skills. We aim to make our students responsible Media Producers, who are able to conquer even the most complex tasks given to them.

The Master Programme comprises of 4 semesters, and even though it builds upon the knowledge obtained in the Bachelor Programme, it is accessible also to students from similar hands-on orientated media courses. This international course, taught in English, will provide in-depth knowledge of the technological and creative skills necessary to succeed in video and visual professions. The curriculum for the postgraduate MA builds upon the subjects studied on the BA course and is intended for student graduates of equivalent Media Study courses. The international course of studies is held in the English language and deepens the technological and design skills in the audio-visual field and imparts knowledge of media management.

The Master

Students are required to choose one special topic of study:

* Audio Production
* Visual Production (Digital Filmproduction)
* Visual Production (Animation, Compositing)

The course is designed to deepen technological and design skills in these key areas and additionally imparts further associated knowledge of Media Management.

Successful graduates can work internationally in responsible positions, as product specialists, project managers or heads of departments.

The course working language is English.

Study process
By splitting the course into modules the students can study in semester-blocks at the three participating institutions. The first semester is completed in Denmark and focuses amongst others on the academic work done in the media. Depending on the study focus the student chooses, the second semester is either held at University of Applied Science in Lemgo (Visual Production) or at the Conservatory of Music in Detmold (Audio Production). The following semester is held at the University of Applied Science in Lemgo and it will cover the field of moving images. This involves creating a media product like a music video within a team.

In the forth and final semester the students prepare their master thesis, which consists of a comprehensive academic article as well as a hands-on music or video project

Aim of the course
Our practical approach allows the students to gain real and work related insights, which will enable them to develop and work on their own initiative on even complex tasks in Media Production. This includes understanding the basic principles and theoretic knowledge of related academic fields. Our graduates command a wide repertoire of skills required to become a successful Media Producer. They are capable in mastering media overlapping and interdisciplinary challenges, as well as taking an active and goal oriented role in the communication process. Both, analytical and creative thinking, as well as an understanding and handling of the technologies are the core demands required for this profession.

Job Opportunities
For the Media Production Graduates there are job opportunities in the most diverse and global network of the media. The course teaches participants to develop complex communication concepts to the highest design and technical standards available. Many of our graduates set up their own businesses, or work in influential media centres in Germany or worldwide. There is demand for our graduates from marketing-, design- and other media-agencies, as well as within the commercial or cultural marketing departments, and also with film and TV production companies and cultural institutions. The growing number of multi-media editorial departments offer further job perspectives.

Requirements

* Certificate of higher education
* Bachelor degree or a diploma in a practice oriented media studies course - in exceptions we can also accept proof of completion of similar work oriented media courses or other degrees which involved gaining practical media experience during the course.
* Proof of English language skills
* Portfolio

For this test you have to send

* 3 working samples from the point of focus, you would like to study (video, audio1, audio2).
* A written summary of 3 to 5 pages with explanations about the methods and conditions during production of the samples (for video and audio).
* A written declaration, that all samples have been produced by your own without external help.

The Master programme begins with the winter semester of each year. The deadline for applications is the 15th of May each year. For more information please contact Mrs Beeck in the Admission Department.
To successfully complete the course the students are required to show conceptual, design and creative skills, as well as knowledge of the contemporary technologies involved, and must be able to think logically and demonstrate communication skills and teamwork.
