Which theoretical and methodological tools are useful to analyse communication between people who are congenitally deafblind and their communication partners? Which assessment procedures can be developed in order to evaluate cognition, interaction and communication? How can staff training improve intentional communication in practice? What is the role of meaning negotiation in obtaining shared meanings?

The Master´s degree programme in Communication and Congenital Deafblindness is a unique programme in which students acquire theoretical and methodological skills enabling them to analyse communication in complex situations. The students will learn to apply this knowledge to the contexts of research and intervention. This European Master´s programme is based on and inspired by the work of the DbI ECN, a working group which is aiming to develop knowledge by combining recent research with explorative interventions in the practical field of congenital deafblindness. The students will make important contributions to the development and stabilisation of this knowledge based expertise.

The programme provides:

* the students with enough knowledge and skills to obtain a position in the field of education related to deafblindness or other related fields, including other related and complex disabilities in which communication is seen as an important aspect of the quality of life

* a sufficient base for consultant in education or for further research professionals who are already working in these fields with extra tools and skills that will help them to improve communicational insights and knowledge
