This programme trains you to become a journalist with in-depth academic knowledge in the field of Journalism Studies. The intensive training offers a solid foundation in the skills you need to be successful in modern journalism. Academic Journalism Studies modules throughout the curriculum train you to reflect on the nature of journalism as a profession and stimulate critical thinking about the future of news reporting and your own position as a professional reporter. The international Master´s programme builds on our well-established and highly successful Dutch-taught Master´s degree programme in Journalism.

Real-world environment
The department´s dedicated newsroom replicates the look, layout and feel of a contemporary professional outlet. Thanks to its equipment, television and radio studios and state-of-the-art software and hardware facilities, the department is designed to ensure students operate in a real-world environment. Courses taught by prominent journalists are developed with this in mind. Internships at professional news organizations are also encouraged by the department.
Field of research
The Master´s programme is closely related to the research carried out by the Journalism Department and its research institute, the Groningen Centre for Journalism Studies. The focus is on Journalism & Digital Culture and Journalism as a Cultural Form. In research seminars taught by senior researchers, you are challenged to conduct research in Journalism Studies.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
