AIM OF STUDIESThe aim of the program is to provide students with a general overview of forestry and nature conservation and develop them theoretical and practical management skills. Knowledge gained in the program: intensive language training and understanding of contemporary international issues allowing graduates to take up top management positions in the forest based sector (and related fields) both in EU and non-EU countries.
GRADUATE PROFILEThe Graduate profiles are based on the acquirement of specific abilities (following the European Qualifications Framework) of forest engineers who are capable of solving biological, technical, economic and managerial tasks in forestry management. Most of all, the graduates will profit from the combination of theoretical knowledge obtained in their preceding bachelor studies in different national contexts, and new skills developed within the program. Practice is an integral part of the program.
The final state examination consists of four groups of questions:
Forest Ecosystems and Forest Ecology from a European Perspective, Silviculture and Stress Ecology at a European Scale, European Forest Economics and Policy, Forest Planning and Forest Technologies at the EU and Pan-European Levels.
The final state examination includes defending a diploma thesis. The Graduation Diploma particularly puts emphasis on a broad context of modern forestry and allows graduates to pursue a career in national and supranational forestry organizations and state administration in their home country or abroad.
Graduates may progress to postgraduate (PhD) programs.

Contents
On 20th September 2010, there will be the opening of a new two-year MSc. Program "European Forestry". The formal and practical study will be carried out completely in English. Both winter and summer terms will be divided into three independent parts where different courses will be given.
The teaching will be performed mostly at the campus of Mendel University Brno-Cerna Pole. When field excursions are involved, a mini-bus will be arranged to pick the students up from the campus. Teaching will involve tutorials, seminars, field and laboratory work as well as formal lectures.

The winter term will be divided into three independent parts - each part will consists of four weeks, summer term as well. The timetable for all courses will be sent to each of the enrolled students safely before the beginning of their studies. In each part of each term, there will be one obligatory and three voluntarily chosen courses in English available. Because there is two-year-study program, in each part of each term six voluntarily chosen courses will be given in English. Obligatory courses are composed of 56 teaching hours, voluntarily chosen courses 28 teaching hours. Thus, within four weeks of each part of the term, 14 hours per week of the obligatory course and 7 hours per week of the voluntarily chosen course will be organized. A diploma thesis has to be prepared within the study period as well.
The study program has been constructed in the way of 72 ECTS credits due to obligatory courses and 48 ECTS credits due to voluntarily chosen courses. All courses will end in exam, six credits per a obligatory course, four ones per a voluntarily chosen one. To be enrolled into next term, a student has to prove gaining minimally 40 ECTS credits in the sum of two last terms. All the voluntarily chosen courses can be chosen really freely - there are no necessary obtained exams before an enrolment into any of course are required.
Professional internships are needed: such stays can be organised either in Czech Republic, in the home country of a student, or abroad. The length of the students stay will be based on the time available. The student will take full advantage of using modern teaching block. The internships are strictly focused on a taking part in professional forest management organizations, companies or society.
The final state MSc. examination will be performed if a student reaches 120 ECTS credits submits an MSc. final thesis and present a written confirmation of the professional internships. Students will be given MSc. title where the Diploma Supplement states clearly that all the study was carried out in English.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTSStudents will be accepted on the basis of interviews conducted in English. Therefore applicants, even foreign nationals, must be present in person for the admission procedure.
Nevertheless, foreign nationals, if unable to attend the interview in person at the designated date, are allowed to send a written request for permission to attend the admission procedure at another date.
