Major economic, political and social challenges are increasingly being met with European solutions. Europeanization is profoundly transforming local, regional and national circumstances in Europe. Europe is developing a single voice at the global stage. Do you want to learn more about the impact of Europe?

The Master Programme in European Studies deals with key European challenges and dilemmas: economic and political integration, environmental management and conflicts, the rights, obligations and access to a European citizenship. One term is dedicated to internship or elective courses. The programme has a history of students pursuing successful internships at major EU-institutions, the United Nations, Foreign ministries and other public or private organisations and companies.

European integration affects economic, legal, political and social conditions, which means that European studies are interdisciplinary by nature. For this reason the programme is hosted by the Centre for European Studies (CES), which has a unique and long held competence in interdisciplinary European Studies. The teaching staff is drawn from economics, the humanities, law and the social sciences. CES is cooperating closely with the Centre for European Research at Gothenburg University, CERGU, which is an awarded Centre of Excellence for European research. The teaching is therefore always connected to recent research within the field.

A full term dedicated to the writing of a Master thesis concludes the programme. Within the wide range of research conducted at CERGU, mentors that suit the scientific orientation and personal interests of the student will be available.

This two-year master programme is hosted by the Faculty of Social Sciences and the School of Business, Economics and Law at Gothenburg University. It provides students with deep knowledge about current salient policy issues as well as the dominating theories within the academic field. Students will be able to focus on areas of personal interest, and the programme offers them a solid foundation for careers as policy analyst or developer within the European political and economic field.
