The Erasmus Mundus programme in Aeromechanics (THRUST) is a cooperation between the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, Duke University in the US, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece and Université de Liège in Belgium. It is a two-year Master's programme including compulsory mobilty for the students.
The THRUST programme offers education of high international standard as well as cultural experience from at least two different countries and a double degree from two universities.
Students graduating from the THRUST programme will have a competitive advantage over their fellows due to having experienced the following:
* Training in multidisciplinary problem analysis and solving
* A novel and multidimensional way of learning involving real and virtual classrooms
* Advanced team building in a multinational setting
* Making efficient use of state-of-the-art electronic communication tools such as to bring specialists together
* A unique network of fellow students, THRUST alumni and industry specialists in the field of aeromechanics
Students from all over the world are welcome to apply. A number of Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available.
Career Prospects
The THRUST programme offers the students a worldwide unique education at a high academic level, involving researchers/teachers at three European and one US top universities in the area and prepares the students for a direct industrial engagement. Furthermore it paves the way for continued PhD studies in this field.
Energy and propulsion are much needed systems in the world for most modern human activities and social development for a sustainable society. Turbomachines produce more than 90% of all electricity in the world, drive the majority of aircrafts and are used extensively as compressors, pumps, etc. in many modern applications (e.g. refrigerators, ventilators, etc).
Aeromechanics is one of the main limitations for more efficient, lighter, cheaper and reliable turbomachines, be it jet engines, steam turbines, gas turbines, wind turbines or hydro turbines, as well as various kind of compressors. The THURST programme aims to educate students with high skills to face the challenges within aeromechanics.
Programme Outline
The programme is highly integrated, first of all regarding student and teacher mobility for certain common lectures, but also related to the extended use of remote teaching by the specialist teachers at all four universities, in conjunction with "face-to-face" and "virtual" interactive workshops and project courses. The educational programme THRUST offers a unique, modern and highly interactive learning material which enhances the student learning process. This, together with the "remote learning" aspects, will also allow for a substantial potential for already active industrial persons to participate in the programme as part of the life-long learning inside their respective companies.
Programme Curriculum
The first two semesters provide an advanced introduction to aeromechanics in turbomachines at one university (KTH). In the third semester the students specialize in one of the three options:
* Unsteady Aerodynamics (Duke University, USA)
* Structural Vibration and Fatigue (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece)
* Aeromechanical & Material Design (Université de Liège, Belgium)
In the final year the students will perform the MSc thesis project, either at one of the academic institutions or at one of the industrial partners involved in the programme. The thesis topics will cover different aspects within the field of turbomachinery aeromechanics. Teaching language throughout the entire programme is English.
The students have different mobility options according to their specialization choice.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

To qualify for the THRUST programme applicants need to fulfill the admission requirements based on previous studies, English proficiency and documentation. Please note that the admission requirements can vary for each Erasmus Mundus Master’s Programme.
1. Previous studies: A completed Bachelor's degree
Applicants must have completed a Bachelor’s degree with specialization in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Energy Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Materials Science/Engineering encompassing a minimum of 180 ECTS credits or equivalent academic qualifications from an internationally recognized university.
Conditional acceptance
Students in their final year of undergraduate education may also apply and if qualified, receive a conditional offer. If you have not completed your studies, please include a written statement from the degree administration office (or equivalent department), confirming that you are enrolled on the final year of your education and giving your expected completion date. If you receive a conditional offer, you should present your degree certificate to the Admissions Office before enrollment at the latest. Applicants following longer technical programmes and who have completed courses equivalent to an amount of 180 ECTS, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
2. Language requirements: Proof of English proficiency
Applicants must provide proof of their English language proficiency, which is most commonly established through an internationally recognized test.
IELTS
A minimum overall mark of 6.5 is required, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic Training accepted). IELTS-tests are verified online by KTH admissions office, sending a photocopy of your test together with your application documents is therefore sufficient.
TOEFL
English test results from TOEFL should be sent directly from the ETS test centre to KTH Admissions Office (institution code 7966, department code 99). Examinee score reports or photocopies are not accepted. Please also note that neither TOEIC nor institutional TOEFL are accepted as sufficient proof of English proficiency.
The following TOEFL test scores are accepted as a minimum:
* Paper-based test: total result of 580 (written test, grade 4,5)
* Internet-based test: total result of 92 (written test, grade 22)
University of Cambridge/ University of Oxford Certificates
* Certificate in Advanced English (minimum grade C).
* Certificate of Proficiency (minimum grade C).
* Diploma of English Studies (minimum grade C).
| Minimal degree required: | Bachelor's degree |
