The Academy of Music and Drama, University of Gothenburg and Göteborgs Symfoniker (the National Orchestra of Sweden) have launched a unique two-year Master´s degree programme in orchestra studies. The students accepted to the programme make up an entirely new orchestra, the Swedish National Orchestra Academy (SNOA). The orchestra forms the foundation for this Master´s degree programme for top-ranking students from all over Europe. SNOA offers musicians the unique combination of highly focused orchestral training, music coaching and a wealth of opportunities to perform in concert.
The main focus areas are: Orchestral concert productions covering all periods from the Baroque, the Classical and Romantic periods through music of the late 20th century and opera repertoire- Repertoire training- Interpretation- Individual coaching- Chamber music- Master´s thesis. SNOA is organizing the programme in collaboration with Göteborgs Symfoniker, the Göteborg Opera and the departments of Opera and Composition at our Academy, in order to offer the basic repertoire of the professional orchestral musician. Upon completion of this full-time two-year programme the student is awarded a Master´s degree and also prepare the students to apply for doctoral research positions. The programme is taught in English.
The contents of the programme are governed to a great extent by the focus and perspective you choose yourself. The artistic questions you raise will characterize the different courses and the individualized teaching will be adapted to your own development.
Musical performances, for instance in the form of concerts, will be integrated with the independent project you write.
You will be able to learn about research methodologies and will extend your practical knowledge about music. This will enable you to undertake projects involving musical performances with greater experience and with added insights into different practical and theoretical methods.
