General information

Human Rights are of all times and all places. They are just notrecognised everywhere, nor interpreted the same in all countries. Even within Europe. It is also possible for citizens to find different forums to go to when they feel their human rights are being violated.

You will be trained in Human Rights at the European level by courses like European Law of Judicial Protection, Human Rights Law, and Refugee & Asylum Law. You will learn about the different systems and how human rights are interpreted within these systems and different
countries.

Career prospects

* a (legal) career working for major law firms, the Community Institutions and as in-house lawyers.
* a career in policy-making or policy-influencing roles.
* jobs in which the interaction between law and politics plays an important role.


Contents

In order to obtain an LLM degree in European Law, specialization Human Rights you must successfully complete a total of 60 ECTS:

a. Three compulsory courses:

* European Law 2 Master level (European Law of Judicial Protection) (6 ECTS)
* Human Rights Law (6 ECTS)
* Refugee & Asylum Law (6 ECTS)

b. The seminar: Human Rights (6 ECTS)
c. Two courses from the following list (at least 12 ECTS):

* European Constitutions and Constitutional Law (6 ECTS)
* European Labour Law (6 ECTS)
* International Humanitarian Law (6 ECTS)
* International Institutional Law (6 ECTS)
* Introduction to Philosophy of Law (6 ECTS)
* Seminar EU Constitutional and EU Institutional Law (6 ECTS)
* Substantive European Community Law (6 ECTS)

d. One course from the list of courses of the European Law programme (at least 6 ECTS)
e. Thesis in the field of Human Rights (18 ECTS)

* human rights in European perspective
* not only human rights, but also European law is taught extensively
* freedom to choose from a wide range of courses as optional courses

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
