This innovative course will transcend national, social and disciplinary boundaries. It will focus on the psychotherapeutic use of an array of empathetic dance cultures and naturalistic movement vocabularies, which forefront spirituality with physicality and the mental and the socio-emotional, on the basis that all components of our human organism are interconnected, and thus become embodied in the unified act of authentic dancing. Driven by polyrhythmic music, IDMT embodies a complexity of symbols, metaphysical meanings, and an assemblage of ancient and sacred imagery celebrating the synchronicity of life as it is lived around the globe.
Therefore the course aims to emphasise a cross-cultural understanding towards healing within current treatment settings, based on eclectic Western/Non-Western therapeutic orientations of the contemporary psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioural, and humanistic models underlying both therapy and teaching.
The course will:
* Balance the classroom, clinical and supervisory aspects of each student´s learning
* Prepare candidates for the assessment of client needs, in order to prescribe an individualised expressive arts treatment plan
* Couple student observation and intervention techniques with an in-depth understanding of pertinent cross-cultural literature in therapy and teaching
* Initiate candidates into methods of measuring clinical effectiveness and real-life research methodology within their practice
* Engage each candidate in the therapist´s function on a treatment team
