Our flagship MBA equips students with the necessary skills to prepare them for the stringent demands of the ever competitive international job market. Our MBA aims to help you to achieve a more rewarding career and lucrative lifestyle. You will develop your inter-personal and communications skills, as well as your ability to apply theory and knowledge to the challenges of the very competitive international business world. You will also enhance your employability through studying the core business subjects, building awareness of the complexity and inter-relatedness of business functions, and through developing your research skills, problem-solving and management capabilities.

The MBA aims to:

* develop knowledge and understanding of organisations, their management and the changing internal and external contexts in which they operate.
* build knowledge and understanding of the complexity of business and management in order to improve the effectiveness of decision-making in organisations.
* develop managers who can contribute a balanced outlook which incorporates an understanding of the economic, environmental, social and ethical concerns in the context of managing organisations.
* develop enduring skills and an appreciation that these skills can be enhanced and developed through life-long learning. Students will thus be equipped to contribute to work and society, whilst keeping pace with and adapting to change.
* develop the necessary knowledge and skills to enable students to enhance their employability in an increasingly competitive environment.

Contents

Teaching across all of our postgraduate programmes is via a combination of formal lectures supported by tutorials and seminars. However, our lectures aim to be highly Socratic with healthy dialogue encouraged between faculty and students and between students themselves. A key feature of Buckingham teaching methods is the use of small tutorial groups, which provide a most effective means of ensuring that the students benefit from the academic expertise at their disposal. It is also the philosophy of the Business School faculty to be available to students outside the scheduled tutorial times and to build sound staff/student working relationships. We recognise this is particularly valuable to our postgraduate students.

Case studies are frequently used to examine business decisions taken in real situations. Our students confirm to us the benefits they have experienced from case-study learning. Business simulations / games are used to give students first-hand experience of decision making in the real world. Role-play and group problem-solving exercises are also typical classroom activities designed to apply some of the theoretical concepts delivered in lectures. We are increasingly using action-based learning whereby students undertake individual or group projects with local companies on topical business issues. Finally, more and more course material is being made available on the University’s own Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
